Pipefest 2010 was held as scheduled on August 8 at 5pm and aided by some good fortune with the weather was a great success. More than 100 pipers and drummers participated, with contingents from the Hong Kong St. Andrew's Pipe Band, Oriental Pipes ad Drums, Red Tartan Pipe Band, Hong Kong International Pipe Band, and the bands of the Hong Kong Adventure Corps, Auxiliary Medical Service, Civil Aid Service and Hong Kong Boy's Brigade. The massed bands were seen on their way by guests Ms Florence Hui, Under Secretary for Home Affairs in the Hong Kong Government; Mr. Iain Lindsay, British Consulate-General Hong Kong Deputy Head of Mission; Mrs. Sally Lo, Founder & Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund; Ms. Fiona Donnelly, General Manager of Hong Kong Scottish Development International; Mr. David McKellar, Chairman of the Hong Kong Highlanders; Commander Colonel Joseph Pau of the Hong Kong Adventure Corps; and Dr. Patrick Wong Lung Tak, Deputy Commissioner of the Auxiliary Medical Services. All the guests volunteered to join the parade and Messrs Lindsay and McKellar managed the whole trip.
The bands marched along the Avenue of Stars and continued along the promenade. They then turned inland to march through pedestrianised parts of Tsim Sha Tsui East, coming to rest in a large square where some bands gave separate performances and there was dancing from Steven Li's Scottish Dancers. The bands then returned along the harbour front to the start point.
The organisers would like to thank the many friends, supporters and sponsors who helped to make this day a success. The Hong Kong Adventure Corps was particularly generous in supplying manpower and equipment on the day. The team from the St John's Ambulance Brigade trailed us faithfully the whole way in case of need, though happily not finding any patients. Many of the musicians assessed the Pipefest as exhausting but enjoyable and there has been talk of a similar event in the coming future...
