The Piper's Art - 1st Hong Kong Solo Piping Recital

The Hong Kong Scottish Piping & Drumming Association is pleased to host the city’s first-ever Scottish bagpipe solo recital, subsidised by LCSD and kindly sponsored by British bagpipes maker R.G. Hardie & Co. The event is unique in that this is the first time some of Hong Kong’s most outstanding home-grown artists will gather and perform both classical Celtic folk tunes as well as modern light music, not commonly played at public parades and ceremonies in the streets of Hong Kong.

Performers: Stewart Fung, Alvin Chung, Kieran Wan and Anthony Brewer plus friends

All performers had years of public performing experience and training in world-class military and civilian institutions in Scotland, Canada and the United States.  While many of the tunes in the recital’s musical programme are traditionally Celtic, their dynamic arrangement in combination with contemporary popular favorites such as Pachelbel’s Canon and modern Scottish dance tunes will promise an evening of exciting enjoyment for music enthusiasts and non-experts alike.

The Hong Kong Scottish Piping and Drumming Association is a government-registered non-profit cultural and educational organization. The objectives of the association are to foster the appreciation, study, performances and teaching of the Great Highland Bagpipes (GHB) and the Scottish style of Highland drumming, along with associated arts, to preserve a valuable facet of global culture and to enhance the status of Hong Kong as an international cosmopolitan city.

The Recital is the association’s inaugural fund-raising event and is part of the organization’s multi-dimensional approach to raising further public awareness of this exciting art form.  Through popular support and money raised in this recital, the association hopes to introduce Hong Kong’s own bagpipe music certification programmes as well as teaching courses and master classes in association with overseas experts and authorities.
